Who we Are, Introducing the Defenders?<\/strong><\/p>\n

we are a group of human rights defenders. We are individuals and\u00a0groups that have founded a coalition of defenders in the Middle East and North Africa\u00a0Region which aims at consolidating ways to protect the defenders in the public sector,\u00a0shedding light on the violations against them, as well as offer support systems through\u00a0advocacy, sharing experiences, knowledge, activities, and the production of\u00a0knowledge and positive arrangements to challenge the culture of patriarchy and the\u00a0hegemonic masculinity and discrimination against women in the different societies, as\u00a0well as provide safe spaces to do that.<\/p>\n

What is a WHRD?<\/strong><\/p>\n

a defender \u00a0is someone who promotes and incessantly seeks, in peaceful\u00a0manners, to uphold human rights in her society, whether individually or as a member\u00a0of an organization of group, as well as contributes towards ending all human rights\u00a0violations and primary liberties for people and individuals.<\/p>\n

What is our \u00a0Vision?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The general vision of the coalition: building societies that believe in human rights,\u00a0freedom, and democracy without any discrimination and through fighting human\u00a0rights violations in the member countries of the coalition or any other country,\u00a0whether they be individuals or organizations.<\/p>\n

What are our Goals?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The general goal: Establishing cohesive and effective sub-regional coalitions that\u00a0work as a core, or as a local group, supporting the defenders to introduce the causes\u00a0on which they are working in a safe and effective space, and that is through\u00a0reinforcing ways of protecting and potentiating the defenders of human rights,\u00a0promoting the concepts of human rights defenders, defining their role, as well as\u00a0spreading the culture of respect and support of human rights defenders. That is done\u00a0through the following:<\/p>\n

1- Advocacy for the protection and empowerment of human rights defenders<\/p>\n

2- Spreading the concepts of human rights defenders and defining their role<\/p>\n

Article 4: Principles and Values<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Commitment to the coalition\u2019s work plan, vision, goals, and principles<\/p>\n

2. Respecting the confidentiality of the defender\u2019s information and the privacy\u00a0related to the nature of her work<\/p>\n

3. Credibility and transparency in treating coalition members and others as\u00a0concerns administrative and funding procedures<\/p>\n

4. The coalition\u2019s independence from national funding and politics, whereby the\u00a0coalition is not susceptible to any conditions that might shake its principles or\u00a0the nature of its work<\/p>\n
