However, he has not been released yet, and is being held in prison illegally for almost 5 months until now.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Souief\u2019s life is in grave danger, as she is currently hospitalized and her physician at St Thomas Hospital issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/freedomforalaa\/p\/DGgXRvdI5mK\/?img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">medical report<\/a> a few hours ago in which he stated:<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cProfessor Soueif is currently admitted under my care at St Thomas\u2019 Hospital, London where she is admitted as a result of her ongoing hunger strike. The effects of the continued fast on her body have led to critical refractory hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar). This is on a background of significant weight loss with loss of body sugar and fat stores and low blood protein levels as a result of lack of nutrition. Her condition is now extremely serious and I have explained the gravity of her condition and the serious harms which will result from continued fasting. These include severely low blood sugars. I have explained that:<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><i>there is now immediate risk to life including further deterioration or death; and that she is in particular at high risk of sudden death with continued fasting<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><i>her organs, in particular her heart and brain are likely to become affected with damage that could be permanent<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><i>we advise intravenous glucose or controlled refeeding immediately to reduce the risk to herself<\/i><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><i>the longer the duration of her fasting, the higher the risk of death during the refeeding process, should she cease fasting\u201d.<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We urge feminist, women\u2019s human rights and human rights activists, groups and organizations worldwide to write to the <a href=\"https:\/\/contact.no10.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UK Prime Minister<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/members.parliament.uk\/member\/206\/contact\">Foreign Secretary<\/a>, write to Mr: David Lammy by contact this email: fcdo.correspondence@fcdo.gov.uk, in addition to the Egyptian Authorities, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sis.gov.eg\/Home\/ContactUs?lang=en-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President Abdel Fattah Elsisi<\/a> to demand the immediate release of Alaa AbdelFattah, and save the life of Dr. Laila Souief who might be hours away from a devastating outcome.<\/p>\n<p>ACT NOW.
